s-Kin Folk Podcast Episode 2: In That Order!
Hey s-Kin Folk! Usually, the newsletter and podcast are posted online weekly on Thursday mornings, but since it was my birthday last week on August 23rd, 🥳🥳🥳, I took the week off from editing. I am a one-woman team except for my beloved partner Jas M Skin Jawn (follow her on Instagram) on the podcast, so when I take even a couple hours off, it affects everything. I love being an entrepreneur but it is not for the weak of heart especially when you are solo. But now we are back on track! So, let’s get into s-Kin Folk Podcast Ep. 2: In That Order!
Cleansers, toners, serums…oh my! In this week’s episode, we focus on the correct order of your at-home daytime skincare routine. There are so many products out there and it can be confusing which items to use first. Listen as we break down a simple at-home daytime routine that is accessible for all people. We also spotlight cleansers this week, discussing the different types of cleansers and the skin types that best align with each one. You say you didn’t even know there were different types of cleaners?! Don’t worry, we get deep like cleansers get deep into your pores.
Here are some of our favorite cleansing products that we mentioned in this week’s episode:
Jas M Skin Jawn’s Favorite Cleansers:
cocokind - Oil to Milk Cleanser
Banila Clean It Zero Cleansing Balm
CeraVe Renewing SA (Salicylic Acid) Cleanser
Brianna’s Favorite Cleansers:
CeraVe Acne Foaming 4% Benzoyl Peroxide Cleanser
Dermalogica Precleanse Cleansing Oil
After we discussed cleansers on the podcast, I began to reflect on my personal relationship with cleansing my face. When I was younger, I knew I overwashed my face. I was so frustrated with the state of my skin that I would overtreat it in hopes of a quick fix. But now I know that is not possible. Instead, my relationship changed completely. Now use it as a coping mechanism and a fundamental step in my personal self-care. When I feel stressed or anxious, washing my face instantly relieves me. Something about removing the “day” from my skin and splashing my face with cool water calms my nervous system and shifts my energy. This is how I know that including facials in your routine is an essential part of self-care. Caring for yourself improves your self-confidence. And this boost can spill over into other parts of your life. Don’t we want to win in all facets of our lives? If you introduce facials into your routine, I am certain it will affect other parts of your life positively. As a licensed esthetician, I have the privilege of watching my clients’ self-esteem improve through the consistent care of their skin. This is why I love what I do.
Skincare is an essential part of my life, and my love for it permeates into every aspect of my daily routine. I am notorious for asking everyone in my life two questions; Do you have a skin care routine and do you wear sunscreen? I had an interest in esthetics even before I attended esthetician school. I’ve always been obsessed with achieving and maintaining healthy skin. From struggling with hormonal acne as a teenager to battling grief and stress-induced cystic acne, and now successfully maintaining balanced skin while wearing makeup regularly, I feel like I have reached a happy place on my skincare journey. Now this doesn’t mean that I do not have products or treatments that I want to try in the future, but it does mean that I am proud of the progress I have made consistently treating my acne. I do not have perfect, poreless skin. That is not realistic. Healthy skin has pores. They are necessary for your body’s systems to work correctly. But over time I have learned to be comfortable with my skin on its good and bad days. I only hope that I can teach my clients and anyone who comes across this blog and podcast how to love and care for their skin. If you would like to learn more about your skin, book an appointment with me today. September appointments are available now! And with that, I wish you healthy skin.
Suds up,
Brianna 🧖🏽♀️
